free childcare for filmmakers at festivals
The Wee Wagon Project
The Wee Wagon is the film industry's first mobile childcare unit. Why mobile? So that it can be used on sets as well as at festivals, and is designed for maximum flexibility. The Wee Wagon Project launched at SXSW 2017, where it provided free childcare to filmmakers thanks to a SXSW Community Grant. The Wee Wagon was stationed outside the Zach Theater in Austin and staffed by early childhood experts from Collab&Play, LA's first co-working space with on-site childcare.
The Basecamp Project
The Basecamp Project is a childcare unit located in a brick-and-mortar space. It's great for festivals or shoots that happen mostly in one location and is best in unreliable weather conditions. As an in-kind supporter of the Sundance Film Festival, Moms-in-Film provided free childcare to filmmaker-parents in Park City in 2018. Our Basecamp was located as a pop-up space at Park City Community Church, and was staffed by early childhood experts from Collab&Play.

The film industry has long, irregular hours and changing locations. The Wee Wagon and Basecamp projects are flexible solutions to the childcare conundrum, and are poised to be the single most effective way of fighting film's gender problem, as well as helping women over 35 stay in the industry. But of course, it's a practical solution for parents of any gender.

These spaces are also a place to come meet other parents in the industry, or a quiet place to pump or nurse.
